Verb to be – Simple Past – Interrogative and Negative Forms

Interrogative Form
Forma-se a interrogativa pondo o verbo antes do sujeito.
Exemplos:
Was he playing soccer yesterday? (Ele estava jogando futebol ontem?)
Were you good students? (Vocês eram bons alunos?)
Negative Form
Forma-se a negativa pondo o not após o verbo.
Exemplos:
I was not at the club last week.. (Eu não estava no clube semana passada.)
They were not married . (Eles não eram casados.)
Quando was e were se contraem com o not temos a forma contraída – wasn’t e weren’t.
